The task was to design an exhibition space for Bachelor graduates to exhibit their final projects. The location is Festplassen in Bergen, Norway. It is an open concrete square, flanked by a small lake with a fountain on one edge, small parks on either side, and a busy street opposite the water.
Things to consider: easy assembly and movement for use in different locations as well as sitting harmoniously within the given location.
My design could be described as an outdoor corridor, with light-box exhibition spaces jutting off to one edge. The combination of the frames and shape somewhat resemble a fish bone. The ‘pods’ are connected, but can also stand individually, each one comprising of a slanted wooden frame and the opal glass light-box. Festplassen is a busy pedestrian through-fare and at night, the space remains open for viewing and motion sensor lighting in each pod delights and draws people to the space.
